What personal information we collect and why we collect it

Commenting

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information provided in the comment form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to detect spam.

An anonymous string (also called hash) created from your email address can be submitted to Gravatar to see if you are using it. The Gravatar Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment has been approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public along with your comment.

Media

If you upload images to a website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location (EXIF GPS). Website visitors can download and extract any location information from images on the web page.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you can save your name, email address and website cookies. These are for your convenience, so you don’t have to fill out your information again when you submit a new comment. These cookies last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain any personal information and will be rejected when you close your browser.

When you sign in, we also set a number of cookies to store your login information and screen preferences. Cookies take two days to log in, and display settings take a year. If you select “Remember me”, your login will remain for two weeks. If you sign out of your account, the login cookies will be deleted.

If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie does not contain any personal information and simply indicates the ID of the article you just modified. It will expire in one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may contain embedded content (such as videos, pictures, articles, etc.). Embedded content on other websites works exactly the same as if a visitor had visited another website.

These websites may collect information about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and track your interactions with that embedded content, including tracking embedded content if you have an account and are signed in to that website.

Who we share your information with

How long we keep your information

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be retained for the time being. This allows us to automatically recognize and accept all response comments instead of keeping them in the moderation queue.

For users who register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can view, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

What rights do you have to this information?

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an exported file of our personal information that we have, including any information you provide to us. You can also request that we remove all personal information from you. This does not include information that we need to retain for administrative, legal or security purposes.

Where we send your information

Visitors’ comments can be checked using the automatic spam detection service.
